Vaughan Family Homestead
Victor C. Vaughan M.D. (1851-1929)
In 1850, John Vaughan, farmer and blacksmith, and his bride, Adeline Dameron, settled on a farm in Mt. Airy. The Old Plank Road was later built alongside the farm. Their son, Victor, studied and taught at Huntsville's Mt. Pleasant College from 1867 to 1874, and then studied chemistry and medicine at the University of Michigan, where he became a world famous medical educator. He served as Dean of the Medical School in Ann Arbor (1891-1921), and was elected President of the American Medical Association in 1913. He was a distinguished medical officer in the Spanish-American War and in World War I.
