Le 25 novembre 1988, un tremblement de terre ébranle fortement la structure de l'église. De nombreuses fissures sont relevées dans les grands arcs et dans la façade principale supportant le clocher. L'église est condamnée.
La ferveur des fidèles de ce quartier et l'accroissement de la population font en sorte que des fonds sont amassés et permettent la réparation de l'église. Elle a pu à nouveau accueillir ses fidèles deux ans après sa fermeture.
Cependant selon un plan établi par les ingénieurs on procède à la consolidation de la structure ainsi qu'à son parement. Par contre, le clocher a été démantelé et n'a pu être reconstruit. Les trois cloches de l'église furent entreposées.
Le 21 juin 2007, les cloches Thérèse, Marie et Anne sonnent à nouveau au sanctuaire. Après 19 ans de silence, c'est du Campanile érigé devant le sanctuaire que retentissait l'angélus à la grande joie de tous les paroissiens.

November 25, 1988, an earthquake shakes strongly the structure of the church. Many cracks are found in large arcs and the main facade supporting the steeple. The church is doomed.
The fervor of the faithful of the area and the population growth mean that funds are raised and allow the repair of the church. It was able to again welcome the faithful two years after its closure.
However, according to a plan drawn up by engineers, the structure is consolidated as well as its facing. For cons, the steeple was dismantled and could not be rebuilt. The three church bells were stored.
On June 21, 2007, the bells Teresa, Mary and Anne ring again to the sanctuary. After 19 years of silence, it's from the Campanile erected in front of the sanctuary that rang the Angelus to the delight of all parishioners.
