Built in 1888 as part of an early Irish, working class residential district located northwest of downtown Worcester. It was located in easy walking distance to local businesses and factories. The Dix-Wachusett Street area was one of the earliest, pre-electric streetcar, three-decker residential areas in Worcester. This area attracted both white collar and skilled blue collar residents.

John Riordan was a bookkeeper. Other tenants include a clerk, stenographer, woodturner. Riordan owned the house thru 1900. The house was sold by 1910 to Peter Martin, a machinist.
