In 1865 additional 2 additional levels were added and it has remained that way to this day. The hardware store is Worcester's oldest business. In 1782 on this site Daniel Waldo, Sr. opened a hardware store for which he built the city's first brick building. In 1782, Daniel Jr, (son of Daniel Sr) entered the business, becoming sole owner in 1791. In 1816 Daniel Jr, took on an apprentice Henry W Miller. By 1831, Miller was the owner of the hardware business and in 1865 bought the building from the Waldo estate. In 1865 the business was sold to Elwood Adams.
