One of the most photographed beautiful and other worldly areas of California. Red Rock Canyon State Park features scenic desert cliffs, buttes and spectacular rock formations. The park is located where the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada converges with the El Paso Mountains. Each tributary canyon is unique, with vivid colors. Red Rock Canyon is an approximately 27,000 acres (110 km2) unit within the Mojave Sector of the Tehachapi District of the California State Park System, located along State Highway 14 in Kern County, about 80 miles (129 km) east of Bakersfield and 25 miles (40 km) north of Mojave.
Due to its unique features and proximity to Los Angeles, 1953 'Cat-Women of the Moon'. It's remake in 1958 (with different cast), 'Missle to the Moon'. Red Rock Canyon has frequently been used as a filming location for motion pictures, television series, advertisements, and rock videos. Among the many westerns filmed there were The Big Country and The Outlaw, as well as such diverse movies as The Mummy, Zorro Rides Again, Jurassic Park, I'll Be Home for Christmas, Cat Women of the Moon, The Car, Westworld, Savages and Airwolf. 40 Guns to Apache Pass, the last film of Audie Murphy, was filmed there in 1966.
