"Built by W.C. Sherman in the 1930s, the Sherman Arcade first housed retail outlets on the ground floor and offices above. The open courtyard in the center with a huge skylight above provided light even when electricity was less than dependable. By the 1960s and 1970s, its tenants had moved elsewhere, and it had become one of the most unattractive buildings in town. Today it is a prime example of successful restoration and, according to some, the most attractive structure downtown."
