Whitefish River First Nation is "A Place of Visions and Dreams" 1,200 Members of Ojibway ancestry with approximately 440 living here on the First Nation.

The community colours are dark blue which represents Thunder Bird Spirits and white which represents Head of the Water Spirits.
 
Whitefish River First Nation land base is 5600 hectares or 22 square miles. Local wildlife is abundant and includes deer, rabbit, beaver, muskrat, mink, bobcat and lynx and an abundance of fish including northern pike, lake trout, whitefish, pickerel and bass populate our many lakes, rivers and streams.  Large stands of birch, poplar, jack pine and cedar can be found throughout the area.

The local Education Department covers Maamewe Kendaasing Childcare Centre, Shawanosowe School and support for students who attend off-reserve high schools and post-secondary institutions.

Business-wise the community undertakes many partnerships that create local jobs including alternative energy projects and the Manitoulin Inn and Conference Centre in nearby Little Current.

The First Nation also administers health and social services, housing, lands/resources and public works/infrastructure.
