Inscribed in a vast network of fortifications, battery Jamblet ( 18th-20th century ) involved in the protection of the arsenal of Rochefort and the harbor where warships anchored .
Initiated by Louis XIV , the defensive system of the bay built by Vauban , has continued to evolve with advances in weaponry and navy .
Simple battery 2 guns in 1756 , the battery Jamblet was destroyed by the English in 1757 with the other fortifications of the island.
Under the Consulate and the Empire (1799-1815) , the entire defense of the harbor of Aix is ??redesigned. Batteries and forts are created ( Liédot fort , Fort Boyard project) or completely rebuilt ( height of the bay and battery Jamblet ) .
In the 1870s , the military and business issues related to colonization and rapid progress of artillery fortifications make the old obsolete and lead the Army to overhaul the entire defense of the bay . This is the golden age of the batteries that are installed in the old forts and along the coast looking at the ocean , such as Jamblet .
From 1885, the electrification allows the establishment of projectors and telephone lines, and close defense de la Rade is organized around lines of underwater mines .
An observation post with a projector monitors line 48 underwater mines . A telephone link with the Fort de la Rade allows to control the electric trigger .
With this device, battery life plays a key role and explains why the tunnel and ditches ( vestiges of the Napoleonic battery ) are arranged . They allow the infantry to provide close defense in preventing the enemy from taking the observation post. The weapons are stored in the bunker arms .
In 1900 , 4 240 mm cannons , firing missiles at more than 10 km, protect the passage between the islands of Oléron and Aix . To calculate the firing range shells requires the use of spotting scopes in two positions telemetry. A rail network facilitates the delivery of shells from the old store ammunition and new Jamblet between Jamblet and Ferns . 24 men and their officers are required for proper operation of the site.
Battery Jamblet still operating in 1926, was abandoned after the Second World War .

Inscrite dans un vaste réseau de fortifications, la batterie de Jamblet (18e-20e siècle) participait à la protection de l’arsenal de Rochefort et de la rade où mouillaient les navires de guerre.
Initié par Louis XIV, le système défensif de la Rade construit par Vauban, n’a cessé d’évoluer avec les progrès de l’armement et de la marine.
Simple batterie de 2 canons en 1756, la batterie de Jamblet fut détruite par les Anglais en 1757 avec les autres fortifications de l’île.
Sous le Consulat et l’Empire (1799-1815), l’ensemble de la défense de la rade d’Aix est repensé. Les batteries et les forts sont créés (fort Liédot, projet du fort Boyard) ou entièrement reconstruits (fort de la Rade et batterie Jamblet).
Dans les années 1870 , les enjeux militaires et commerciaux liés à la colonisation et les progrès fulgurants de l’artillerie rendent les anciennes fortifications obsolètes, et conduisent l’Armée à refondre toute la défense de la Rade. C’est l’âge d’or des batteries qui sont installées dans les vieux forts et sur le long de la côte regardant l’océan, comme celle de Jamblet.
A partir de 1885 , l’électrification permet la mise en place de projecteurs et de lignes téléphoniques, et la défense rapprochée de la Rade s’organise à partir de lignes de mines sous marines.
Un poste d’observation muni d’un projecteur surveille une ligne de 48 mines sous-marines. Une liaison téléphonique avec le Fort de la Rade permet d’en commander le déclenchement électrique.
Avec ce dispositif, la batterie joue un rôle de première importance et explique la raison pour laquelle le tunnel et les fossés (vestiges de la batterie napoléonienne) sont aménagés. Ils permettent à des fantassins d’assurer une défense rapprochée en évitant que l’ennemi ne s’empare du poste d’observation. Les armes sont stockées dans la casemate aux armements.
En 1900, 4 canons de 240 mm, tirant des obus à plus de 10 km, protègent le passage entre les îles d’Oléron et d’Aix. Pour calculer le tir, la portée des obus nécessite l’utilisation de lunettes d’observation dans deux postes de télémétrie. Un réseau de rail facilite l’acheminement des obus à partir de l’ancien magasin à munitions de Jamblet et le nouveau situé entre Jamblet et Fougères. 24 hommes et leurs officiers sont nécessaires au bon fonctionnement du site.
La batterie de Jamblet, encore en fonction en 1926, a été abandonnée après la seconde guerre mondiale.
