"Documented from 1066, the church passed in 1153 to the Benedictines of Nonantola, who enlarged it. The great "Crucifix" by the school of Giotto dates from the early 14th century. New work was carried out in the 15th century when the church passed to the Camaldolese order. Michelozzo di Bartolomeo built the chapels at the east end, the great triumphal arch, and the façade. Fom this period there are several works by Nery di Bicci, Starnina, Bicci di Lorenzo and the school of Botticelli. In 1557 the Dominican nuns from San Pietro Martire moved here and built the sacristy and choir, supported by eight columns and crossvaulting. In the 18th century the convent was turned into a Conservatory for poor girls. The refectory has a "Last Supper" byb Matteo Rosselli (1614)."
