The sculpture is by British artist David Wynne from 1980, and is called "Five Swimmers Fountain". It depicts five female and male figures floating gracefully around each other and surrounded by the dancing fountains.

This sculpture was originally used as the centre-piece to the Elmsleigh Shopping Centre in Staines. There were complaints about the naked figures and the sculpture was removed and placed at the Memorial Gardens in 2006 following some changes.
