The historic Hotel Arcata is located at 708 9th Street at the NE corner of the historic Arcata Plaza. The building is a three story, flat roofed, brick building with minimal Beaux Arts detailing and was built in 1914-15. The hotel contained 48 rooms and fully occupies a 75 ft wide by 115 ft deep city lot, with the west wall abutting another building. The street level stores have recessed entrances between plate glass show windows. The second and third stories have vertically arranged symmetrically grouped, two-pane windows encircling the front, east, and back sides. The main entrance, centered on the south side and facing the Plaza is covered by a decorative stationary marquee and ornate bracketed hood with the worlds, HOTEL ARCATA. The hotel was built to serve the travelers brought to Arcata with the completion of the railroad in 1914.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 5, 1984. For more information on details of the building view the National Register Nomination Form (visit link) and historic photos (visit link) .
