A small obelisk monument and a homemade metal pole with text and a small plaque marks the location of the Pony Express station that was established near Register Cliff in WY in 1861.

Blasterz think the obelisk looks like it dates from the 1920s. The obelisk is made of concrete with the James Earle Frasier bronze Pony Express medallion on it. Horseshoes have been pushed into the concrete. A small bronze plaque reads "Pony Express Station 1860-1861."

Next to it is a square metal pole placed by the Pony Express Trail Association. The pole has letters and a small plaque on one side. A flat-topped piece of metal with two corner-shaped flanges is welded to the top. The flanges bear the letters "P" and "X". The 4 sides of the pole are lettered as follows:

E Side:
Plaque and PONY EXPRESS

N side:
STATION SITE

W side:
X
CENTRE STAR

S Side:
P
TRAIL 1860-1861

The plaque on the N side of the pole reads as follows:

"Dedicated 2004 AKA Ward’s Station
Nine Mile House – Sandpoint – Adolph’s
Sponsored by Jim Stretesky – Frederick Family
Rob and Gail Collins Families
Pony Express Trail Association – Joe Nardone, Historian"

The Frederick family gave Register Cliff to the State of Wyoming in 1932 to preserve it for the future. A 1930s-era old Oregon Trail Medallion commemorates this gift with a plaque as follows:

"[OT "New Frontier" Medallion -- also designed by James E. fasier]

Dedicated to the Pioneers of Wyoming
REGISTER CLIFF
Acquired by the State of Wyoming
through gift of the
Henry Frederick Family
1932"

It makes sense that the Frederick family would also be interested in doing a little more to mark the Pony Express station history here.
