American River Bluffs and Phoenix Park Vernal Pools

The coordinates are at the Phoenix Park Vernal Pools. The Phoenix Park Vernal Pools are a small patch of nature surrounded by development on all sides. The American River Bluffs run for miles along the American River and have beautiful Blue Oak woodland habitat.

There is shared parking with the adjacent sports fields (I wonder how many vernal pools were destroyed to make them). A paved path leads into the pools. Unpaved trails continue on winding through the pools. In the summer and autumn, they are a dry grassland with majestic oaks. Winter rains fill the pools and create the display of flora and fauna that got this area designated.
Hiking and biking trails can be found along the base of the American River Bluffs. These bluffs run for miles up and down the river. One set of trails close to the vernal pools start out at N38 39.252 W121 12.595.
