Described as "Victorian Eclectic" by the Oregon State Inventory of Historic Properties, this one and one-half story house was built around 1873 for prominent Jacksonville banker Cornelius C. Beekman. Beekman was the Jacksonville agent for the California and Oregon Stage Company until becoming a Wells Fargo Express agent in 1863. In 1857, Beekman established his bank in downtown Jacksonville. Beekman was the Republican candidate for Governor, losing to William Thayer by fewer than 70 votes. Today the house is owned by Jackson County and operated as a museum by the Jacksonville Heritage Society.
