I'm not sure about the potability of this water, but you can splash it on your face to cool down as you climb the path towards Key Summit.

I'm not sure about the potability of this water, but you can splash it on your face to cool down as you climb the path towards Key Summit.

Enough water is seeping out of the rocks to create a small stream down the side of the path. The trail that this spring is found on is the Routeburn Track, one of NZ's Great Walks. Key Summit is a 45 minute walk from here using a side path. If you're up for the entire experience, the spring is at Kilometre 2 (or 30 if you're going the other way) of the 32 km, 2-4 day track. It weaves through beech-forested valleys and alongside clear green rivers, glistening alpine lakes and breathtaking views from a mountain pass.
