This pump is beside the main east west road in Over Kellet, attached to the wall on a recently renewed wooden board.

Although the handle still operates, there is no suction to draw water up. Around the corner on another road, Capernwray Road, is a stone trough with fresh water flowing in. Presumably for animals. There is no bucket hook on the spout as the outlet is nearer the ground than usual. On the riser through the pavement are some maker's markings.

The pump is on the still busy road through the village.

Kellet is an old Viking word meaning hillside with spring.

The only internet reference found is (visit link) which describes the location and probable use.

How to find.:
The pump is on the wall beside Kellet Road. Opposite Brookside house as you come in to the village from the west. Park beside the wall at the start of Capernwray Road and walk back to the pump. At the cross roads in the middle of the Green, head west towards Carnforth. The pump is on the north side of the road.


Visiting Restrictions:
There is a street lamp on the other side of the road. Otherwise daylight hours.
