The Jonathon C. Foltz Jr. Memorial Bridge is located on Central Ave. where it crosses Kelsey Creek. It was rebuilt in 2009 by the Nestlerode Contracting Co, Inc. and dedicated to Jonathon C. Foltz Jr. who lost his life trying save another's. During the night of August 26 to 27, 1937 a man had been washed away during a flood in Wellsboro and Jonathon jumped in and tried to rescue him, sacrificing his own life. Jonathon was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was posthumously awarded the Soldier's Medal for his heroic efforts that day. His name is permanently attached to this bridge to keep his memory alive.
This bridge also won the 2009 Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Award for its solid and beautiful design. There is a plaque on the southwest side of the road, located in the center of the wall.
