The monument consists of a column coated with gray granite, which is arranged between four spheres. The monument features a plaque with the inscription: 'Hulde aan de nagedachtenis van Justus Dirks, hoofdingenieur 1ste klasse van den Waterstaat eerstaanwezend ingenieur bij de Amsterdamsche Kanaalmaatschappij. Aan zijne technische leiding is het Noordzeekanaal voor een groot deel te danken. Bij tal van andere belangrijke werken in ons land en daar buiten heeft hij eveneens den naam van den Nederlandsche ingenieur hoog gehouden. 1825 -1886.'
