There are two date stones beside the main entrance. One was laid by two pioneers of the Church of England in Port Kembla. The other by a grandson of a famous Australian of the same name W C Wenthworth (William Charles) a poet, explorer, journalist and politician, and one of the leading figures of early colonial New South Wales.
The church is listed as a heritage building & is one of the oldest in the district. The NSW Government's Heritage Office states of the church's importance:
Typical church architecture of the period. One of the town's oldest church buildings. This is a significant element in the townscape.
Port Kembla went on to see the development of the steel industry in Australia so the church has witnessed major changes over its 90 years.

Full inscription: This stone was laid by Messrs P.J.N.Rieck & F.J.T.Downie two of the pioneers of the Church of England at Port Kembla on 5th December 1924.
This stone was laid by W C Wentworth Esq on 6th December 1924, was blessed by the Ven. Administrator of the Diocese Archdeacon G D'Arcy Irvine V.C. Founder of the Church of England at Port Kembla in March 1899
