In Washington, in the Old Washington Cemetery (also known as the "Old City" Cemetery), is a red obelisk that is for John and Marjory Birket.

To get there, from Washington Square where Main Street and IL Route 8 intersect, travel south on Main Street to Howard Street. Take a right on Howard Street and travel one block to Market Street. Turn left and drive south to the end at the Old Washington Cemetery. The obelisk is visible to the right on the inside of the curve around the cemetery.

The obelisk is a tall structure at least 10 feet tall. It is four-sided and has a short pyramidal cap at the top, and a shelf-like object about 2 ft high. It stands on top of a base of stone. On one side is an engraving of the family name, "Birket." On another side is the following:

"Marjory Birket
Born Feby 18 1801 Died Dec 24 1852.

John Birket
Born Nov 8 1798 Died Oct 18 1874
They still live asleep in Jesus"

Findagrave.com has an entry for this grave. John was born in England and died in Tazewell County. Children include Arthur Thomas, John Charles, and William Armstead.
