Susanville Railroad Depot - Susanville, California - U.S. National Register of Historic Places on Waymarking.com

On April 26, 1913 the Fernley and Lassen Branch of the Southern Pacific opened a railroad depot (in a box car) in Susanville. On September 14, 1913 a combination passenger depot and freight shed was opened (destroyed by a fire in 1989). The current Susanville Railroad Depot opened on September 14, 1927 and is a 72 feet long by 28 feet wide with a stucco exterior. The interior of the depot was divided into three main areas; a waiting room, ticket office, and express office. The Southern Pacific closed the Susanville Depot in 1956 and used the building for storage until 1979, after which it stood vacant for years. In 1988, the Depot was acquired by the Lassen Land and Trails Trust. Restoration of the Depot was completed in 1994. It now serves as a visitor center and museum at the eastern end of the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail. The depot was placed on the National Register on April 5, 2001. (visit link)
