The historic Lassen County Court House is located in Courthouse Square in Susanville, California. Lassen County was created by the California legislature in 1864 and Susanville was named as the county seat. The county set aside a courthouse square in Susanville and built a small courthouse in 1867. In 1915 a contract was let for construction of a new courthouse which was designed by George C. Sellon who became the first State Architect in 1907. The Beaux Arts Classical Revival style Lassen County Court House was completed in 1917 and is roughly rectangular, measuring about 124 feet by 64 feet. The courthouse is a two-story reinforced concrete building faced with stone masonry with a full basement and partial third story. The courthouse was placed on the National Register on January 23, 1998. The National Register of Historic Places Registration Form contains extensive details about the building. (
