This church is located in the town of Leith where Group of Seven painter Tom Thompson was raised. Thompson painted landscapes throughout Ontario but primarily in Algonquin park where he had a summer cottage on Canoe Lake. Thompson died in July 1917, officially of drowning but there have been unproven suspicions of homicide. He is buried in the church yard of Leith United Church.
