This historical marker is located on the front lawn of the Bayfield Country Courthouse. Its text reads:
Bayfield Country Courthouse. The present Bayfield County was created in 1866. In 1892 the county seat was moved from Bayfield to Washburn. This Courthouse was erected in 1894-95; of locally quarried sandstone at a cost of $31,737.00, by the Architectural firm of Orff and Joralemon, Mpls.
This building was approved as a Wisconsin Registered Landmark in 1974 and was entered on the National Register in 1975.
