In 2006, the ground was broken for the new CITI Field, which replaced the former Shea Stadium, as the home of the New York Mets professional baseball team. Opening day was April 13, 2009, and the new facility boasts seating for 41,922, and a 2.5 acre ballfield with 100% Kentucky Bluegrass. Fans enjoy 1.2 million square feet of space to enjoy their favorite passtime. The facility has 11 elevators, 48,000 cubic yards of asphalt, 12,540 tons of structural steel, 1,058 pieces of precast concrete, 1.2 million bricks (233,000 square feet), 11,000 light fixtures, 2,200 doors, 850 Sharp televisions, 824 Sports Lights and 8,300 parking spaces.

The facility houses the Mets Hall of Fame and Museum which holds the history of the Mets organization, using interactive exhibits and include the team's World Series trophies and rings, plaques for each of the members of the team's Hall of Fame and is located next to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda (where you will find the Robinson statue. The Hall of Fame/Museum is open on game days from the time gates open thru the time the ballpark closes (no flash photography, no food allowed here!)
