A black granite tombstone now identifies him as the founder of the heliocentric theory and also a church canon. The tombstone bears a representation of Copernicus' model of the solar system—a golden sun encircled by six of the planets.
On 22 May 2010 Nicolaus Copernicus was given a second funeral. Copernicus' remains were reburied in the same spot in Frombork Cathedral where part of his skull and other bones had been found.

Description:
Nicolaus Copernicus 19 February 1473 – 24 May 1543) was a Renaissance mathematician and astronomer who formulated a heliocentric model of the universe which placed the Sun, rather than the Earth, at the center. The publication of Copernicus' book, De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres), just before his death in 1543, is considered a major event in the history of science. It began the Copernican Revolution and contributed importantly to the scientific revolution. [ source Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolaus_Copernicus ]
