Built in 1892, the site was originally planned for an elegant hotel with 30 rooms with wire (electric), steam heat and an elevator. The walls were complete, roof on and the name Elm House was cut in stone and placed on the front. Work suddenly was halted. The building was then purchased by another party and the Elm House inscription was simply changed to 1892
