This is a great location for watching trains! There is almost a constant motion of trains past this point. There are unit coal trains passing through on the mainline headed north with empties coming back south, through freights passing in both directions, and tons of switching activity in and out of the yard just to the north. If there is somehow a lull in the traffic, you are surrounded by historical sites, both of a railroad nature and a non-railroad theme. You are not far from places where you can obtain the items necessary to support life or to catch 40 winks in between railfanning sessions.
