Description:
Born James Timothy Hardin in Eugene, Oregon, Tim is best known as the composer of the Top 40 hit "If I Were a Carpenter," which he performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. The song has been covered by Bobby Darin, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, The Four Tops, Robert Plant and many others. He also wrote "Reason to Believe" which Rod Stewart covered as a chart-making hit. Tim dropped out of South Eugene High school at age 18 to join the Marine Corps, ultimately spending time in Vietnam as a military adviser. After his discharge he moved to New York City, performing blues and folk music in Greenwich Village. Drug abuse hampered his music career and cut short his life at age 39. But his performance at Woodstock and the success of other artists covering his songs made Tim a music legend.
