The house is a wide angle gable roof with wide over hangs that faces the street. There is a centered entranceway which is recessed. The door is flanked by sidelights. The house was built around 1843.

Otis Chittenden was the first owner of this house, whose family settled in Wendell in 1810. E.L. Gates was a selectman in 1868 who was the second owner. Charles M Ballou was the third owner. He had purchased the Baptist Church almost next door. He was both an Assessor and Selectman for the town.
