This is a "Then and Now" waymark in more than one way. Marius Fiil owned the privileged inn Hvidsten. The photo of the proud couple in front of the inn is taken the year before the beginning of World War II. As the war progressed, it became harder to operate the inn and I wonder if not many guests took the keeper's hospitality to complain that no one did anything against the occupying force.

On 13. March 1943 arrived the doctor Thorup Petersen at the inn and was invited on bacon omelette of innkeeper Marius Fiil, and as they sat there, Ole Geisler came into the taproom. Ole Geislers task was to coordinate the resistance work in Jutland. He turned to Marius Fiils guest and asked if it wasn't the doctor? As Thorup Petersen confirmed it, said Ole Geisler: "Well, I have a message for you from Elijah." And that was the password telling that on the night before was dropped weapons and explosives at Mariager for the resistance in Jutland. Marius Fiil was now told about secret things and agreed - after asking his wife Gudrun for advice - to attend the reception work. That evening Marius drove his carriage wagon to Trinderup to retrieve weapons and explosives.

During the following month Marius Fiil succeeded organizeing a group of people from the area, among them his son, Niels Fiil, and his son in law. A new reception location closer to Hvidsten was found. Already, 17 April was the first reception, where in addition to equipment they also received a parachute man. Marius Fiil was not part of the receptions, but from the inn he led the group's preparations.

The group was known as the Hvidsten Group and their location, Mustard Point, was by the British described as the best reception center in Denmark.

On 11 March 1944 the Gestapo, in the early morning, surrounded Hvidsten Kro, and the majority of the group were arrested by German soldiers. Eight of its members, including Marius, were of the German court martial sentenced to death on 26 June and executed by firing squad in Ryvangen 29 June 1944 by the German occupiers. The executions were the direct cause of the uprising in several places in Denmark and led to a general strike in Copenhagen. Along with the freedom fighters Marius Fiil was one of those who took "Then" and made it "Now"
