Sur la motte féodale au centre de Brûlon se dressait un château qui fut démoli par les chouans en 1793.
Deux ans auparavant, c'est de la terrasse de ce château qu'Ignace CHAPPE envoya le 2 mars 1791 le premier message télégraphique à destination de Parcé (15 km) où son frère Claude faisait constater le succès de cette première expérience par des officiels.
Une réplique du mécanisme de ce télégraphe optique, dressée au sommet de la motte actuelle, rappelle cette exceptionnelle aventure dans le domaine des télécommunications.
On the feudal mound in the center of Brûlon stood a castle that was demolished by the chouans in 1793.
Two years earlier it is from the courtyard of the castle that Ignace CHAPPE sent on March 2, 1791 the first telegraphic message to Parcé (15 km away) where his brother Claude had the success of this first experiment confirmed by officials.
A replica of the mechanism of the optical telegraph, erected at the top of the mound today reminds this unique adventure in the field of telecommunications.
