This arch was formed, like the other formations at Bryce, through the cycles of freezing and thawing of water (rain/snow)cracking the rock and forming the hole. At Bryce they go through over 200 freeze/thaw cycles a year. In the winter, melting snow seeps into cracks in the rock and then freezes at night. The frost wedging that occurs from the expansion of the ice causes the cracks to widen, and ultimately causes chunks of rock to fall away.
