The reserve offers a single free electric BBQ & picnic benches all undercover & with views over a stretch of water referred to as Bendalong Harbour. In the nineteenth century ships called here to load timber from a long gone jetty. The beach is a few metres away & offers safe swimming with a gradual deepening. It is also well known as a place were sting rays will swim up to your feet in the shallows so bring some small bait fish along & stand still. They're protected so don't touch them.
I couldn't find any reference as to why the beach & reserve are so called but there are several fresh water creeks flowing into the beach so perhaps there was a washerwoman here all those years ago.
