The Residenz, the palace of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg is one of the most splendid Baroque Palaces in the world and is a world heritage site. The extravagance in its construction extended to the metal work including the wrought iron gates leading to the palace. They were the work of the famous blacksmith and designer, Johann Georg Oegg, whose statue stands near on the those gates. The statue was sculpted by Julius Bausenwein in 1952 and is located in the Hofgarten.
