Co-located within Gervais High School, the Douglas Avenue Alternative School offers a lower student-to-teacher ratio and individualized learning programs for students who need an alternative to a traditional high school. Typically there are about 15 students enrolled in the program. Students attend five hours per school day, usually during either the morning shift (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) or evening shift (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.), but modified schedules are possible due to employment or special circumstances.
