The plate on the tree was the first hint. 1/4 S1/S12
LS 5240. USDA
In case of fire the marker was surrounded by a small rock cairn.
The area was also barricaded with a down log to prevent driving into or ?
The photo of the cairn is south facing. The benchmark is
about 20 feet off the pavement through manzanita, ceanotus.
