The Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Dores, build in 1728, stands in the centre of Criação Velha, a district of Magdalena. The church has a and a small, stubby bell tower and single nave, 30 meters long and 6.3 meters wide.
On the high altar venerates an image of Nossa Senhora das Dores (Our Lady of Sorrows), patron saint of the parish. The feast of the patron saint is celebrated annually on September 15th or the following Sunday. It is a large and lively celebration that usually subject to large influx of visitors, not only across the island of Pico, but also the island of Faial. Inside the temple is also a large image of Senhor Bom Jesus.
