James finally has the courage to ask Helen out on a date. Tristan advises taking Helen to the Reniston, the best restaurant in the area. The date doesn’t get off to a good start. It is raining cats and dogs and James’s car gets a puncture. Getting out to fix it he soaks his shoes in a puddle. Helen’s father lends him some shoes.
At the restaurant James is expecting a tea dance, however, he has got the dates wrong. He manages to get a table, but the waiter only gives him the table thinking they are staying at the hotel.
Some time later James goes on a double date with Tristan and two girls. Unfortunately they all end up at the local dance where Helen and Richard Edmunson are already there. James, having had too much to drink, makes a fool of himself.
