The town of Elma has historically had books to lend since 1910, when a public library as opened from the Christian Church (it had 300 volumes). By 1914, the library had moved to 4th Street, followed by several additional moves over the years, each time growing and becoming more loved by the citizens. By 1939 the library had a presence in the Elma City Hall, and then in 1994 moved to a new 6000 square foot building on the corner of North 1st and West Young Streets. (The Elma library has been a part of the Timerland Regional Library System since 1969, allowing it to share resources). Today Elma residents have access to more than a million items, plus downloadable items (videos, music and books).
Timberland Regional Library has 27 community libraries, 2 cooperative library centers, and 3 library kiosks in Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties in Southwest Washington State
