The two-way plow was a tremendous innovation in terms of improving efficiency when plowing a field. After completing a pass with the plow, instead of having to return to the starting point at the opposite side of the field in order to turn the soil in the same direction, the farmer could no merely swith to the plow that turned soil in the opposite direction as he proceeded to make the next pass in the opposite direction.
