Research shows that Bawley Bay was a location at Gravesend in Kent where fishing vessel's used to be located. All that remains today is a small memorial garden that has a selection of anchors from working river craft, two memorials and this engraved stone.
An old photograph, found on the internet, shows the predecessor of this sign with the same co-ordinates. That would indicate that the co-ordinates shown are on the Airy datum and why there is a difference between the co-ordinates shown and those on the GPS.
Type of structure: Sign
Difference between the post coordinates and your GPSr reading: If the co-ordinates are plotted in WGS 84 the position would be 102m to the east.
Reason for the coordinates: To indicate where Bawley Bay used to be.
