After the original courthouse was deemed too noisy and windy it was decided to build a new one, subsequently construction of the Geraldton Public Building commenced in 1897 and was officially opened in 1898.
When first opened the building housed Customs,Treasury and the Mines Departments, but after they all moved to other sites the building was remodelled for the single purpose of a Courthouse and was opened on 15th Sept 1989
