The Historical Marker mounted on a steel post in front of the building reads:
Planing Mill - Built 1875
James Pett built the planing mill for the Brigham City Co-op. It produced cabinetry and furniture as well as square nails.
After the co-op closed, John Finley Merrell bought the planing mill, and it has been operated by four generations of the Merrell family.
