Kanosh is named after a chiftan of the Pahvant Ute tribe who was a convert to the LDS faith and friendly to the early Mormon pioneers in the area. Because of this friendship between this band of Utes and the Mormon leadership, the community of Kanosh was spared most of the horrors of the Indian wars occuring in other nearby regions.
