A commemorative elm tree was planted in 1932 to celebrate the bicentennial of Washington's birth.

The dedicated elm is located in Penn Common also known as Penn Park. There are several memorials located in this park which is one big giant square block of green and scattered granite monuments.

Before the tree is a 3-foot granite marker, curved at the top, with two bronze-inscribed tablets upon it. There are The top marker reads:

George Washington Elm

Planted By
Col. Thomas Hartley
Society, C.A.R.
February 22, 1932

The lower plaque reads:

In Memory Of
George Washington
1732 - 1799
This Tree is Planted By
Yorktown Chapter D.A.R.
In the Bicentennial Year of His Birth

Parking is accessible along the street. This si not the safest place to come at night so, don't!
