The construction of Interstate 26 considered several routes (presentation). The path ultimately chosen led over Walnut Mountain through a pass on the Buckner family land. The family cemetery is to the east.

The highway sign reads "BUCKNER GAP, Elev 3370 ft".

The gap does not appear on older topological maps as only a jeep trail traveled through it.

Access:
Interstate 26. Pull off on shoulder to take visit photo. Be careful if you step out of vehicle due to fast moving trucks.
