In Wellesley, at the intersection of Mass. Rte. 135 and Weston Road, is Station 1 of the Wellesley Fire Department.
The building is right at the southeast corner of the intersection. It is a two-story structure, with the main entrance facing the intersection, and two garage doors, one facing Route 135 and one facing Weston Street. Some of the windows on the second floor are dormers through the red slate roof.
Station 1 is the smaller of the two stations for Wellesley. The main station is located in the village of Wellesley Hills, near where Mass. Route 9 meets Mass. Route 16. The web site has a lot about the fire department.
This station has 1 Engine: Engine 1, a 1250 gallon Seagrave pumper.
The other station has a pumper as well as a hazmat vehicle, an ambulance (private), and a spare pumper. There is also a KME Tower Unit (Ladder).
3894 alarms during the period July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. Personnel include 36 Firefighters, 12 Lieutenants, 4 Shift Captains, 1 Fire Prevention officer, 1 Chief of Department, 1 Deputy Chief, 1 Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention, 1 Department Administrative Assistant, and 1 Mechanic. They don't break it down by department, but I bet this station responds to less than half of them. The staff value is estimat taking into account the number of vehicles.
