One of the most cryptic pieces of public art in the city. Most people walk through it without even noticing it's there.

There is a small pedestrians passage that branches off the street next to the theater in Basel. Hundreds of people use it as a shortcut to Steinenvorstadt, but most of them have never noticed that they are walking through a cryptic and hidden piece of art.
Some may find it weird or funny that the posters are mounted upside down, but only regular users know that this has been the case for all posters here for twenty years now. And if you watch the details you will notice that their height above ground is not ideal. And the ceiling looks like a cross-walk. I you would be able to walk at the ceiling with your head hanging down, everything would fit and the posters were at eye level. Yes, that is a sculpture. It is called "Luege-Lose-Laufe" (Alemannic for "Watch-Listen-Walk", the end of a well known rhyme little children are taught when learning to cross a street). The artist was Marc Covo and it was installed in 1993 with support of the municipal art promotional program.
