The Port Arthur Lions Club spearheaded the project to move and display the historic 4-6-0 oil-burner steam locomotive no. 503 at Port Arthur's Bryan Park in 1957.
Ther 4-6-0 locomotive No. 503 has been used for decades by the Louisiana & Arkansas RR in Port Arthur. The L&A was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kansas City Southern RR Co. until 1939.
The plaque inside the fence that protects the loocomotive reads as follows:
